One of the giant varieties of Bromeliad, Alcantarea Stotack Purple is a stunning specimen plant that can be used as a main feature, or planted amongst other bromeliads and similar plants to create a colourful tropical display. It is easy to grow, thriving in partly shaded positions. It produces architectural foliage with silvery smooth tops and purple undersides, and can get up to two metres in width, with mature plants producing flower spikes up to two metres tall.
The flowering process can take one year, and once this has occurred, this plant will die and be replaced by pups that shoot from the original base. The pups can be easily removed and potted on. Be sure to protect this plant from frost.
