The Camellia Japonica Emperor of Russia has extremely large, double, brilliant scarlet flowers with golden stamens surrounded by twisted, inner petals. Flowers appear in early winter and remain right through to spring. It has dense and bushy foliage and can be grown into a small tree. To protect this plant, avoid dense shade as it will limit flowering and shelter from the hot afternoon sun and wind. Plant it in a feature pot, grow it as a hedge, or an espalier.
