A hardy plant that is often called the cast iron plant because it can tolerate infrequent watering, low light areas, dark murky conditions and poor air quality. Its long-stemmed deep green, strappy leaves grow from a creeping rhizome and small inconspicuous cream to dark purple flowers blossom in spring to summer. Useful for understorey planting in tropical landscapes.
