Add a touch of the tropics to your garden with this hardy, tropical perennial. This impressive plant produces gigantic leaves that are the size of an umbrella, and shaped like an elephants ear. The large leaves have wavy margins, raised veins, and point skyward. This plant grows 1 to 1.5 metres tall, and can reach up to 5 metres tall in optimal conditions. Yellow green flowers appear intermittently throughout the year. This makes an ideal specimen plant and can be planted in the ground or a large pot.

Cultivate the soil before planting. Dig a hole that is twice as wide and deep as the container. Remove the plant from the container and place it in the hole, so that the soil level of the plant is the same as the surrounding soil. Fill the hole with soil, tamp down firmly, and water well, even if the soil is moist.
This plant prefers fast draining soil and a good watering, but not being left wet, as root rot can set in.
Cut away dead and damaged leaves from this plant.
