Growing these plants is simple. Long, narrow, shiny dark green leaves that grow from a deep central cup and broad, showy flower bracts which shoot up in summer in an amazing array of colours, will brighten up your home with many weeks of colour. The bright reds, yellows, oranges or deep purples, depending on the species will be a stunning brush of colour on your table top or in an entrance hall. A fantastic showy gift when paired with a decorative pot.

Guzmanias have a tank, cup, vase or urn (the central well which the flower stalk arises out of) which is how they collect a lot of the water they need. You want to keep that vase about 1/4 of the way full of water and flush it out with fresh water every one to two months to avoid any build up of bacteria. Keep even less water in the tank if you have low light and/or cool temperatues. You don't want the plant to rot out. We advise to let the cup go dry for two to seven days before you refill with a little water.
