Add a touch of the tropics to your garden with this hardy, tropical perennial. The New Guinea Shield is a clumping plant that produces upright, large elephant ear shaped leaves with a purple underside that grow up to 30 centimetres in length. This plant generally grows to 1.5 metres and can reach 4 metres when its happy.

Planting Advice

Cultivate the soil before planting. Dig a hole that is twice as wide and deep as the container. Remove the plant from the container and place it in the hole, so that the soil level of the plant is the same as the surrounding soil. Fill the hole with soil, tamp down firmly, and water well, even if the soil is moist.
