A primitive leaf vegetable with attractive curled blue/green leaves. It prefers a sunny spot with well-drained soil and needs to be well-watered when it’s establishing. It has an excellent flavour either raw or cooked. You can cook it as you would cook cabbage either stewed, boiled, braised or blanched – but remember that kale takes a little longer to soften. It can easily be grown in the garden or in pots for smaller living areas.
- Growing tip: protect from slugs, snails, aphids and caterpillars.
