Leeks are an easy to grow vegetable that have thick edible white stems with lush green leaves. They prefer moist clay soils where the soil needs to be kept loose and they'll prosper with a good mulch. It's likes a sunny or partly shady position. It can be planted in pots and put undercover in cool weather.
Leek is delicious in soups, stews and pies. When cooked on their own they soften up and have a mildly sweet flavour. They have a mellow peppery taste when eaten raw in salads.
