Is a hassle-free, lovely arching grass-clump perennial, with long leaves and small flowers that appear late in summer. Lemongrass prefers a full sunlit position and a well-drained soil. It’s drought tolerant once established and is very attractive as a border plant in your vegetable patch to divide grass or other plants from the garden bed.
It’s scent is similar to lemons and is used to add a zesty, citrus flavour to many Asian soups and stir fries. It compliments fish and chicken dishes or use on its own to make lemon grass tea. The lemongrass stalk is too tough to eat on its own, so it has to be finely chopped or crushed. Dried lemon grass must be thoroughly soaked before using.
Lemon grass makes a great pot plant and will thrive on a warm balcony or in warm indoors area.
