The Avana Tardivo Mandarin is a medium sized shrub to small tree originating from the Mediterranean and is most prized for its late cropping season. This Mandarin has small fragrant flowers that bloom in spring, well after other mandarin varieties, and the fruit develops though summer and into early autumn. The fruit have a wide and flat appearance, with soft smooth skin of pale orange, and a tart but sweet taste.
A good choice of mandarin to plant with early cropping varieties, to extend your harvest season. Be sure to fertilise in winter, keep the plant protected from wind in spring to prevent flower loss, and water well across summer and the fruiting period.
