Persimmons are beautiful ornamental fruiting trees that bring colour to your garden year round. The trunks of these trees are made of a rich, black bark, which is an excellent contrast to the bright foliage and fruit. Persimmons flower in spring with the new foliage growth, and fruit develops through summer and holds onto the tree right through the colder months. The deciduous foliage turns through a range of yellow, gold, and orange before falling, leaving the vibrant orange fruits on display.

Persimmon fruits are large, round and flat (similar looking to a tomato) with soft flesh and crisp skin in vibrant orange. Old varieties of Persimmon fruits should be left on the tree until they are soft and juicy, otherwise they are too tart to eat. Grow your Persimmon tree in a large open space with room to grow, in free draining, well composted soil. They tolerate frosts but are fragile in windy areas, and benefit from a light prune each year to keep a dense shape.
