A nutritious perennial plant with stout edible stems in a brilliant ruby red that will grow all year round. The large leaves are beautiful but shouldn't be included on the menu as they contain high concentrations of oxalic acid which is poisonous. Can be grown in a vegetable bed or as an ornamental border. Plant in a sunny position or semi-shady spot.
Can be stewed for desserts where the brilliant red colour really performs. Perfect in pies, crumbles, fools and jams. Rhubarb goes very well with orange.
