A medium to large evergreen plant with a robust black trunk and long, bright green fronds. The broad trunk is covered with rough, hair-like scales. Ideal for ferneries and shady spots in the garden. It will tolerate full sun if given plenty of water. Grows best in moist, humus-rich soil in a sunny or shaded spot.
