Add lush greenery to your garden with this tropical, evergreen perennial. Native to East Asia this plant grows in an upright clump, up to 3 metres outdoors and 1 metre in indoor pots. It produces large, green leaves and white or pink flowers with yellow and red details.

Cultivate the soil before planting. Dig a hole that is twice as wide and deep as the container. Remove the plant from the container and place it in the hole, so that the soil level of the plant is the same as the surrounding soil. Fill the hole with soil, tamp down firmly, and water well, even if the soil is moist.
This plant likes a moist position and have moderate watering needs.
Prune this plant to ground level if it is frost damaged or untidy, as it grows from an underground rhizome. Remove spent flower stalks with a pair of clean, sharp secateurs. Regularly remove dead and dying leaves (that usually turn yellow), so that they do not take strength from the plant.
