A low spreading plant producing four-sided pods with frilly leaves growing out of each side, hence the name ‘winged’ asparagus. It blooms with red flowers that are very decorative with the crisp delicate flavour of asparagus. Extremely popular in Asia this delicious plant is easy to grow and cook – dipped in tempura batter and deep-fried, pickled, or sautéed, steamed or stir-fried. It also makes an attractive ornamental plant for pots or borders.

Planting Advice | Sow in seed trays or direct where they are to grow in full sun. Sow seed 10mm (½in) deep, firm down gently and keep moist. Transplant into final growing position, spacing plants 25cm apart, after soil temperature reaches 20°C. Harvest 12 to 14 weeks after sowing. |
