An heirloom beefsteak tomato from the Isle of Krim in the Ukraine that bears flattened globe fruits with a dark reddish-purple to black colour and greenish brown shoulders. They have an intense, smoky flavour with a dark red flesh. Ideal for slicing, salads and cooking.

Sow in pots or trays of seed raising mixture in a sheltered position in full sun. Sow seed 5mm (¼in) deep, and firm down gently. Seedlings appear within 10 to 14 days. Transfer to final growing position when sturdy enough, spacing plants 50cm (20in) apart. Harvest 12 to 15 weeks after sowing.
