A highly-flavoursome, slender and firm plum-shaped tomato commonly used in sauces and preserving. The Roma tomato is a disease tolerant variety with good leaf cover that produces an almost seedless fruit with little juice and a mild flavour. While Roma is an open-pollinated variety rather than a hybrid, it has been steadily improved to become fusarium wilt and verticillium-resistant (thus the VF in the name). It's popular in Italian dishes such as pasta, pizza and curries and very delicious in summer salads. Will require staking.

Sow in pots or trays of seed-raising mix in a sunny but sheltered position. Sow seed 5mm (¼in) deep, firm down gently and keep moist. Seedlings appear within 7 to 14 days. Transfer to final growing position when sturdy enough, spacing plants 50cm (20in) apart. Pinch out the side shoots and fertilise regularly once first trusses have set. Harvest as needed.
