It produces copper tinged new growth and profuse clusters of bell shaped, waxy, pink flowers that are flushed deep rose in spring. It is ideal for sheltered garden beds and containers, especially underneath deciduous trees. Choose a cool site that is sheltered from wind and frost. This plant grows best in moist, humus rich, acid soils.

Cultivate the soil before planting. Dig a hole that is twice as wide and deep as the container. Remove the plant from the container and place it in the hole, so that the soil level of the plant is the same as the surrounding soil. Fill the hole with soil, tamp down firmly, and water well, even if the soil is moist.
This is a very thirsty plant that needs regular watering.
