Must have garden accessories

Whether you’re a keen gardener wanting to treat yourself, or you’re trying to buy a gift for the gardener in your life, there are a few things that will fit the bill just perfectly. These must have garden accessories are essentials that will make your life much easier.

Cleaning products. They may not be the most fun but cleaning products and tools are essential for keeping a garden or outdoor space looking its best.

Garden edging. These garden edging pieces are the perfect way to neaten up a garden and keep everything tidy and under control.

Gloves and clothing. Protect hands from thorns, dirt, rough edges and all the sharp and dirty bits in a garden or garden shed with good gardening gloves, in a range of fun colours. And protect your head, or the little heads in your garden, from all the elements with our range of sun hats and beanies. Keep feet dry in our range of all-season weather proof sloggers and gumboots in colours or novelty patterns – these make great gifts for the avid gardener.

Letterboxes. Upgrade your frontage with a stylish letterbox from our range. These pieces are sure to keep the postman coming back.

Plant labels, ties and more. Is there anything worse than finishing your seasonal planting only to realise you can’t remember which herbs have gone in where? We don’t think so, which is why we love our range of plant labels and ties, to keep your vegie patch under control.

Safety. Is safety sexy? We think so. Dust masks aren’t pretty but they’ll protect you when you’re gardening, painting or doing woodwork.

Shadecloth and weedmat. Protect plants from sun and frost with our high quality knit shade cloths and be rewarded with happy plants, and lay weedmat down to keep dreaded weeds off your happy plants.

Stakes, trellises and wire. Stake young trees to give them the best chance at life, and give climbing plants something to climb up with something from our range of stakes and trellises.

Windchimes. If you love the sound of gentle chiming in the wind, hang a windchime from our selection in your outdoor area. Or gift one to a friend to liven up their garden.

Worm farms and compost bins. If you’re ready to get all eco friendly up in your garden, pick up a ready-to-go worm farm or compost bin from Flower Power.

How to make garden stakes

You can really use any straight stick – a branch, a short curtain rod, a post – for garden stakes. However, if you can’t figure out how to make garden stakes, a purpose-designed stake from our range is a great option as it’s rigid, has a pointed tip and will survive the weather.

When planting small trees or immature plants, it’s better to plant the stake with them rather than pushing the stake in later as you’re less likely to damage the roots.

Use ties at a couple of points up the plant, not so tight that you damage the plant, but not so loose that it can just slip out. As certain plants such as tomatoes grow, you may need to add more ties, but trees and shrubs should become strong enough to stand on their own.
