This interesting cactus is a favourite among collectors due to its long stems, weeping habit, and beautiful show of flowers. The Rat Tail cactus is so called because the grey stems are thin and long, with mature plants growing up to a meter in length, which makes it perfect for hanging baskets. It is a fast growing cactus and in spring and summer it blooms with large singular magenta flowers that make a delicate and striking contrast against the spine-covered stems. Like all cactus it prefers free draining soil, and to promote growth and flowering it should be re-potted each year with fresh potting mix.
